The Black Bull in Paradise is the Theakston Brewery Visitor Centre situated at the brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire. A brewery tour is a great day out, providing a true insight into one of the Country’s best known family breweries. Named after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed the legendary Theakston Ales and the also the site where the brewery now stands, once known as Paradise fields.
Theakstons, as it is known locally, is found in the middle of the wonderful market town of Masham, which is located between Leyburn and Ripon.
Experience first-hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing Theakston beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.
The Brewery Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week from 10.30am with regular guided tours available throughout the day. From the Visitor Centre you can see the working cooperage, one of the last remaining in this country, where their cooper, Jonathan Manby, handcrafts the wooden casks ready to be filled with Old Peculier. You might even catch a glimpse of him at work!
The brewery tap is the ideal place to sample the Theakston ales; there are always six different beers on tap. The sample tray is the perfect way to try all six! Look out for the famous Old Peculier served from the wooden casks.
No visit is complete without a souvenir and the gift shop is stocked full of ‘Peculier’ merchandise, from backward clocks to Old Peculier socks, local Yorkshire treats and of course bottles their legendary ales.
