Whitby Walks offers 4 main walks exploring over 1000 years ecclesiastical & maritime heritage. The four main walks are;
Whitby Ghost Walks – a 75 minute tour aimed to discover the strange and supernatural tales of murder, mystery and suspense.
In search of Dracula – This tour offers you to walk and talk where the infamous vampire Dracula stalked.
Heritage Town Tours – an entertaining walk designed to inform and amuse, as you discover the buildings and historical characters of this “Tawld Spot”. Going through 5 key places in Whitby, starting off with the ‘Eastside Tour’ taking you around the ancient heart of the old town, including the legend of the Penny Hedge, Abby Packhouse road, the 199 steps and many more. The ‘Westside Tour’ examines the development of the shipbuilding and its allied industries and the development of the railways that happened in the reign of Queen Victoria. ‘Whitby New Town’ tour follows on highlighting Victorian Whitby at its best; including homes for the wealthy shipowners, large boarding house, a private theatre and a hotel famous for its connections with Dracula. ‘Tombstone Tour’ taking a closer look at St. Mary’s Parish Churchyard giving an insight of this important area of Whitby’s rich and varied heritage. ‘Whitby Ghost Walks’ where you can discover the strange and supernormal tales of murder, mystery and suspense. ‘In search of Dracula’ tour allows you to explore the places where Dracula walked and talked. The last tour is the ‘In the footsteps of Cook’ this tour is designed to explore the streets and see the houses which James Cook knew before embarking in his career in the Navy.
Illustrated Talks – entertaining and informative slide shows on 16 key areas that have links with Whitby, including; ‘Heritage Coast’, ‘Vikings, Vicars & Vampires’, ‘Maritime Heritage’, ‘Devil’s Island’, ‘Petra’ and many more. These tend to be more popular with schools, adult clubs, societies and after dinner entertainment.
