Inspired by York’s incredible history, we hand-make a range of world-class gins in the city’s only distillery. Our gins regularly win gold medals at the world’s top spirits competitions. We won England Gin Distillery of the Year at the New York International Spirits Competition 2021.

The York Gin shop is in the stunning 16th Century Sir Thomas Herbert’s House, opposite the famous Shambles and M&S. Enjoy free tasters and chat to our famously friendly team of gin experts. The shop sells beautiful gift sets, cans of G&T, large bottles of all our gins and souvenirs. The shop is child and dog-friendly.

Christmas at York Gin

Our special Christmas Gin is inspired by the festive favourite, the Terry’s Chocolate Orange, invented and made for decades in York.

York Gin Chocolate & Orange really is ‘Christmas in a glass’. 

Our gift sets of three and six miniature gins are ideal presents – perfect for enjoying over the holidays or on the long nights of January. And we have lots of Secret Santa ideas and stocking fillers.

About our gins

All our six gins are made, bottled and labelled in our sustainable York distillery, powered by 100% green energy.

Choose from large 70cl bottles and miniature 5cl bottles, as well as beautiful gift sets. 

Our bottles, packaging and labels are all made sustainably in Yorkshire. They are 100% plastic free. We also sell cans of York gin and tonic: classic G&T made with London Dry and premium light tonic, and Berry Fizz G&T (with natural fruit flavours).

The York Gin range

York Gin London Dry: A classic dry gin – one of the smoothest and most balanced gins around. Gold winner at New York International Spirits Competition 2020. 

York Gin Roman Fruit: A full-strength dry gin with strawberries, apples and hibiscus. The UK’s favourite Roman expert Dame Professor Mary Beard loves it in a Negroni.

York Gin Outlaw Navy Strength: Strong but smooth 57% gin inspired by York’s villains, and enjoyed by whisky drinkers and lovers of stronger gins. Best English Navy, World Gin Awards 2021. 

York Gin Old Tom: Experts say it is one of the world’s best. Our collaboration with the Michelin-starred Star Inn, Helmsley. With added Yorkshire Rose and herbs. Quadruple gold medal winner.

York Gin Grey Lady: Inspired by one of the city’s ghosts. Extra citrus from the bergamot in Earl Grey tea. ‘A masterpiece in subtlety’ – Sunday Telegraph. 

York Gin Chocolate & Orange: Inspired by the Terry’s Chocolate Orange, invented and made in York for decades. No added sugar. Gold winner, New York International Spirits Competition 2021.

History in the Tasting

The inspiration for our gins comes from York’s 2,000-year history, and English gin’s hundreds of years of traditions. We use traditional methods to make our gins. The botanicals (herbs and spices) we use have been available since the 18th Century ‘Gin Craze’. 

We celebrate the city’s Roman past with York Gin Roman Fruit, using fruits and flowers associated with Ancient Rome. York Gin Outlaw is inspired by the city’s historic villains, including Guy Fawkes, Dick Turpin and ‘Yorkshire Witch’, Mary Bateman. Meanwhile, York Gin Old Tom is a celebration of the Victorian style of gin, and York Gin Grey Lady is a homage to our city’s many ghosts. 

York’s centuries of chocolate making inspire York Gin Chocolate & Orange. The Terry’s Chocolate Orange was invented in York in 1932 and made in the company’s chocolate factory until 2005. The York Gin distillery is only two miles from the old factory.
