This review is strictly for the restaurant as we were staying in a nearby B&B. The restaurant is definitely dated and the dining rooms seemed cramped. But there seemed to be a number of people eating there. They may have been guests of the hotel. We were seated quickly despite having no booking. The menu was quite limited. I ordered the Macaroni and cheese hoping it had the local cheese in it. It came with garlic bread and a small salad. My husband ordered the steak pie which came with gravy, mushy peas and a hearty amount of chips. Both meals were satisfactory. I ordered chocolate cake for dessert which came with the option of custard, which I chose. The custard did not taste home made, so I opted to use it sparingly. All in all, I'd say that the meal was acceptable, but don't expect more than standard pub food.
We stayed nearby but had called this pub beforehand to book a table to eat On arrival we were told that there was not a table OR food due to staff going home early and the chap behind the bar said he was on his own! Strange that this place had a Halloween evening ? Man recommended at pub 4 miles away and said he would call the manager there to let him know we were coming and to give us a discount On arrival in The Crown Hawes they had no idea who we were so no discount We did not return to the Rose and Crown During the remainder of our stay in Bainbridge
Fantastic pub with a welcoming feel. The rooms were great — clean, comfortable, and full of character. The pies were amazing, and the service was absolutely brilliant. It’s wonderful to find a place that’s truly dog friendly too. Would make the perfect local if it were a bit closer.
I stayed here 2 weeks ago- do not make the same mistake! As a pub ,it serves good beer and works. As a hotel and restaurant I was extremely disappointed. The room was cold and had a very shabby feel- numerous small things were broken. Given the abundance of top quality local produce, the breakfast was a huge disappointment with only the bacon being a redeeming feature. Awful sausage, poor quality bread and tinned tomatoes gave the impression of a falling business desperately cutting costs. I can accept the quirky building given it's history but it needs maintenance.
Great night out with a large group of us. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Beer great quality and good value for money. The pub is full of character and the new management team are a welcome improvement.
