The Bear Grylls Survival Academy is a rare chance for a lucky few outdoor enthusiasts to learn Bear Grylls’ extreme survival techniques. Launched in 2015 the Bear Grylls Survival Academy’s 24 Hour Family Course in Dearne Valley is designed to inspire fathers and sons, mothers and daughters.

The 24 Hour Family Course comprises of a combination of survival skills and adventure tasks designed to put the enrollees to the test. The course is run at the Kingswood Centre in Dearne Valley. Formerly the Earth Centre, Dearne Valley opened its doors as the new Kingswood Centre in 2012. Following a multi-million pound investment programme, Dearne Valley is Kingswood’s most environmentally sustainable centre, a contemporary blend of nature, adventure activity, located near to the beautiful city of York spread across 50 acres, making for one large outdoor classroom with opportunities for interactive learning across grassland, woodland and wetland.

Techniques taught include learning how to build and light a fire, how to navigate at night, best ways to use a knife for survival, foraging for grubs and rodents, building a shelter, extreme weather survival and river crossings. The Academy has been designed for parents and 10-17 year old children by Bear Grylls and is run by his close team of highly trained experts. It is the perfect opportunity to bring family members together to share a truly memorable and fun experience.

It is not only exciting and fun but teaches them useful life skills and what it really means to be able to look after yourself when the chips are down. So it is with great pride that we have launched our 24 Hour Family Course in Dearne Valley, as a great opportunity to inspire other parents to do the same. The course will share all the skills I have learnt over the years,” says Bear Grylls. “Oh, and it may hurt a little.”
