The world’s most famous steam engine, 60103 Flying Scotsman, turns 100 years old in 2023. The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway will host the locomotive throughout May and help celebrate the landmark birthday.
There are four main events across the month on various dates.
* *Flying Scotsman Centenary Dinner * *
Set at our beautiful country station in Oxenhope, you will have the opportunity to enjoy fine dining in our Exhibition Hall, photo opportunities with plenty of time to get up close to Flying Scotsman, a guest after-dinner speaker and fantastic entertainment. This will be an experience that is rarely available and one that will be a very special evening indeed.
– 18th, 19th & 20th May –
* *Visit the Legends Cab * *
It’s a childhood dream for many to sit in the driver’s seat of Flying Scotsman. We can make that dream a reality this May with our ‘Visit the Legends Cab’ events at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Along with unlimited travel on our trains for the day, you will receive a timed slot to visit the cab of Flying Scotsman with one of our experienced locomotive experts giving an explanation of the controls.
The loco will be alive with a fire in its belly and all the smells of coal, steam and oil that come with it, a truly multisensory experience!
– 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th & 11th May –
* *Ride the Legend * *
Take in the atmosphere of the bygone age at the Keighley & Worth Valley this May with this global celebrity at the head of your train. The combination of the steam, smell and the Bronte line is enough to bring back those memories of a very different world decades ago, perhaps from your childhood.
– 25th to 29th May –
* *Shed Tours * *
Immerse yourself in the sights and smells of a working locomotive shed; 60103 Flying Scotsman will be serviced in the yard at Haworth. You’ll be able to get close to the locomotive while our volunteer guide explains what is happening. Don’t forget your camera for this unique chance to photograph 60103 in the yard!
