One of nicest churches I've been in. Beautifully kept with stunning coloured glass windows, stonework and more. I visited it in part because of its Bronte connection, as Charlotte is thought to have visited it during one of her stays on the Yorkshire Coast. However, it's a peaceful, serene church in its own right and if like visiting places of worship, this is for you.
I saw a few pictures online and thought it looked like a beautiful church to visit. I read that this church, placed at the top of a cliff was like a beacon to homecoming fishermen. A beautiful church about 800 years old. Not a lot of car parking but turns out the bells ringers had arrived to practice, so we had the joy of the bells (apparently there are 6) as we walked around the graveyard. A very well kept graveyard. I had seen the monument in pictures but no mention of whos it was. It turns out it was built by a loving son for his parents, unfortunately a lot of the names were unrecognisable. And its now falling into disrepair, such a shame for a beautiful monument.
Stunning historical church. Lot of interesting elements to the interior, so have a good look around if you visit. Don't miss the Alter stone as you walk around. Take time to have a walk around the churchyard. There are loads of nice headstones.
Hidden away just off the public footpath near the country park, it's a beautiful church & graveyard
A beautiful approach from the ravine and this early Christian church is on the top of the hill.
