Goole Essentials

Welcome to Goole

Goole‘s maritime history and industrial past is written into its skyline. Alongside tall cranes and derricks, you’ll find distinctive water towers and proud Victorian buildings. Walk into the centre and you’ll also discover the new Goole, a bustling vehicle-free shopping centre with its own market hall and an abundance of quiet gardens and parks.

Local history and heritage

From its humble beginnings as a wooden bridge on the ‘Dutch River’ to a global gateway, Goole has been indelibly linked to the region’s industry.

While Goole is best known for its industry, it is also prized for its wildlife and nature reserves. For a day out with a difference, visit the Thorne and Hatfield Moors, the largest peak bogs in Britain, and a protected site packed with over 200 species of birds and over 5,000 different invertebrates. Alternatively, spend a day in The Blacktoft Sands Nature reserve with marsh harriers, avocets and over 270 other species.
