|A new café celebrating cycling has opened its doors at Dean Clough in Halifax, marking an exciting addition to the local food and drink scene. Pedal & Pour, operated by MAMIL Café Bars, is the fourth venue launched by the family-run business, which aims to create a welcoming space for the community. This café stands out not just for its cycling theme, but also for its focus on providing a relaxed atmosphere where people can gather, enjoy good food and drink, and connect with one another.
Pedal & Pour: A Community Hub
Pedal & Pour is designed to be more than just a café; it’s a place where the busy lives of Calderdale residents can find balance. With a cycling theme at its core, the café provides an inviting spot for cyclists and non-cyclists alike to unwind. The interior is set to reflect the spirit of cycling, promoting a sense of community and togetherness.
David Van Gestel, the founder and owner of MAMIL, expressed excitement about the new opening:
“We are delighted to open our fourth venue at Dean Clough, which provides a wonderful destination backdrop for our growing customer base.”
“Balance and handling is the true foundation for success in achieving your goal safely while conserving energy in the sport of cycling. Pedal & Pour reflects that ethos in many ways, creating a special place where the community can pause, connect, collaborate, and support one another.”

At Pedal & Pour, customers can expect a diverse menu that includes:
Locally roasted coffee
Craft beers
Wines and cocktails
Brunch options
Grazing plates and hearty dishes
This variety ensures that there is something for everyone, whether it's a quick coffee break or a leisurely meal with family and friends. In addition to food and drinks, the café features a community notice board, offering local businesses and organisations a platform to share information about upcoming events and announcements. This community focus is a key aspect of Pedal & Pour’s mission, encouraging collaboration and local engagement.
Supporting a Good Cause
Pedal & Pour is also committed to making a positive impact through annual fundraising initiatives. A portion of food sales will be donated to various charitable causes throughout the year. For its first fundraising effort, the café will support Bowel Cancer UK. David Van Gestel plans to participate in the London to Brighton cycle ride this September to help raise vital funds for this important cause.
A Prime Location
Dean Clough is an impressive site located on the edge of Halifax town centre, making it easily accessible for both locals and visitors. The area is well-connected, situated between Leeds and Manchester, and just 15 minutes from the M62 motorway. It also boasts direct train links to major cities like Leeds, Manchester, and London, making it a convenient destination for a day out. The history of Dean Clough is noteworthy; the site has transformed from a former textile manufacturing hub into a vibrant centre for business and culture. Over the past 40 years, significant investments have turned it into a sustainable and award-winning space. Today, around 3,000 people work in the complex, which houses a mix of over 150 organisations, from small independent businesses to larger enterprises like Covea Insurance.
A Bright Future for Dean Clough
Jeremy Hall, Chairman and Managing Director at Dean Clough, welcomed MAMIL’s new venture:
“It is wonderful that MAMIL has chosen to locate its fourth venue with us. Its family-focused proposition perfectly aligns with that of Dean Clough, and Pedal & Pour is such a great addition to the wealth of amenities we already have here.”
His comments reflect the ongoing commitment to provide diverse and authentic experiences for those who visit or work at Dean Clough. The opening of Pedal & Pour is a testament to the vibrant café culture that continues to evolve in Dean Clough. As the community comes together in this new space, it is clear that this café will play an important role in fostering connections and promoting a healthy lifestyle through its celebration of cycling and community spirit.
