The interactive, hands-on exhibits allow for lots of fun and visitors can take part in the range of workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions that take place throughout the year.

Ropemaking

Head to Outhwaites to see ropemaking in progress to watch almost all the time and always on request.

See how the twist is put in! Rope making by the traditional process, various twines, church bell ropes, dog leads, barrier ropes and more, including braid-making machines.

Pre-booked school visits welcome and special talks by appointment.

Bolton Castle

Just down the road from Hawes, don’t miss the spectacular Bolton Castle.

This castle offers visitors truly memorable family days out, the action packed daily schedule includes tones of exciting events from archery to trails and hawk and owl displays to traditional crafts.

The medieval building originally built as one of the finest homes in the land, it scars over 600 years if history.
