Unusual YHA, quite small and located in a residential area. Everything is very clean. Didn't feel like a YHA. Facilities were great and staff were lovely. Set in a wonderful village
Our cycling group rented the entire hostel for 3 nights so my review is based on us having exclusive use and self catering. The whole hostel was very clean and well maintained. The large kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for mass catering. There is a comfortable lounge and dining area with a light and airy feel. There is a lockable bike store outside. The location is very good, just a short walk from the town centre. Helmsley is well supplied with cafes and pubs and the local brewery / tap is well worth a visit. Good location from a cyclist point of view with a wide selection of challenging and easier rides and lots of places to visit. We had a very enjoyable stay.
This is a great youth hostel in a superb location. The room had the most spectacular view!
August 2023 - visit 1 We stayed in the 5 bed en suite room for 3 nights. It is a large room with plenty of space and a private bathroom. It was clean, comfortable and great as a base for exploring the area. The staff are brilliant & we’ve had a great stay. August 2023 - visit 2 Absolutely brilliant stay again! We had the 5 bed en suite room and it was perfect. The hostel was generally much busier this time but still plenty of space for everybody. We stayed two nights and everybody had a good sleep. The facilities are excellent - the kitchen especially! The staff are all brilliant and genuinely care about the hostel & it’s guests. On the second day we had a walk into Helmsley and were pleasantly surprised to find it full of cafes, nice little shops etc. The YHA is ideally located for visits to York, Scarborough & Whitby. We’ll definitely be back!
A family of four, we have just stayed for 3 nights, camping in the grounds. It's smaller compared to some other YHA's we've stayed in but excellent all round. The location (a short walk to the village centre) is great, the facilities, including the kitchen, shower rooms, eating and lounge areas have everything you need and are kept clean thoroughly. The camping area is a small, flat garden that fits 6-8 good sized tents. There are picnic tables and benches in the camping area so if you're camping you don't need to bring any tables or camping chairs.The staff were all really friendly and hard working. Helmsley itself is absolutely beautiful and we will definitely be back to this gem of a place.
