|Bavette, a charming neighbourhood bistro in Horsforth, is gearing up to celebrate Bastille Day this July with a selection of delightful French recipes. Head Chef Sandy Jarvis, along with his husband Clément Cousin, has crafted a menu inspired by classic French dishes that are perfect for summer gatherings or a romantic evening at home. This bistro has already made quite a name for itself, earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand, being featured in the Good Food Guide as one of the favourite neighbourhood restaurants for 2025, and making it into the top 100 at the National Restaurant Awards.
Celebrating Bastille Day
Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14th, marks a significant moment in French history, commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which was a key event in the French Revolution. It’s a day filled with festivities, fireworks, and, of course, delicious food. To honour this occasion, Bavette’s Head Chef, Sandy Jarvis, has put together four seasonal recipes that reflect the essence of French cuisine. These dishes are not only perfect for celebrating Bastille Day but can also be enjoyed throughout the warmer months.

Onion Tartlette with Chicory - This dish features a crispy pastry base topped with sweet caramelised onions and a refreshing chicory salad, making it a light and enjoyable starter.

Braised Lamb Shoulder & Boulangère Potatoes - This hearty dish consists of slow-cooked lamb shoulder served with boulangère potatoes, which are thinly sliced potatoes baked with stock and onions, creating a comforting and flavourful meal.
Crème Brûlée - A classic French dessert, this creamy custard topped with a crispy caramelised sugar layer is a sweet way to finish any meal, especially when served with seasonal fruit.
