Good for taking the kids with their bikes and ball. You used to be able to bike and play on the running track but it may be stricter now as there are signs up saying you have to pay. Review loses 1 star for the state of disrepair of the outdoor 5aside court (the flooring is ripped up and hazardous) and 1 star for the car park (security gate is too narrow and lower car park is riddled with pot holes).
It's a Kirklees Council sports complex consisting of indoor and outdoor football pitches, rugby, cricket pitches, indoor bowling and running track with field facilities. There are free public toilets and users showers, and vending machines near reception where youcan also book and see notice board with local sports going on. There are 2 carparks one tarmacced nearer the indoor facilities and a rubble carpark nearer the playing fields, both are FREE including access to playing fields. A super place even just to have a family walk or fun on the grass. We sometimes just go here to chill and watch the goings on, as quite a nice place near to canal and greenway footpaths. Can be accessed on foot or by train at Deighton, buses between Huddersfield- Dewsbury- Leeds and road. Loses one star for rubble carpark (and odd potholes) and lack of maintenance of the refuse points/bins and signposting once through gate or signage from railway station.
I enjoy walking around here when I go for a stroll down the canal I go through the playing fields and iv even been on the running track on my bicycle before now
A lovely gentlemen working at the reception allows me to give this place the 5 stars, good staff make all the difference!
Excellent sports park. Good grass pitches well maintained. Small running track. 4g football pitch. Also cricket oval
