|Ever get that feeling you want to go out and do something a bit different? Not just the cinema or the usual stuff. Well, how about catching some live music in a place you’d probably never expect – a proper Yorkshire whisky distillery. Sounds pretty cool, right? It turns out the Spirit of Yorkshire distillery isn’t just about making award-winning drinks; it’s also becoming a brilliant spot for live music. And if you missed out last time, you’re in luck, because a seriously talented local artist is making a big return after her last gig sold out completely. Get ready for the next Distillery Session, because it’s set to be a good one.
A gig in a distillery? Tell me more
Okay, so when you think of a whisky distillery, you probably picture big copper stills and barrels, not a stage with a singer-songwriter. But that’s what makes the events at Spirit of Yorkshire so unique. They host these special evenings called the Distillery Session series right inside their Pot Still Coffee Shop. Forget massive, impersonal venues; this is all about creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere where you can really connect with the music. It’s the kind of place you’d chat with a mate, grab a drink, and just soak in the chilled-out vibes. This upcoming event on 25th April is the second one in their 2026 programme, and it’s building on the success of previous sell-out shows. It’s a chance to see incredible musical talent in a setting that’s a world away from your average pub gig or concert hall. Plus, being at a distillery has its perks – you know the drinks menu is going to be top-tier. A great night out in Yorkshire is practically guaranteed.
So who is this returning star?
The musician everyone’s talking about is Em Louise, a rising singer-songwriter who also happens to be a fantastic saxophonist. Hailing from the nearby seaside town of Scarborough, she’s making waves with her soulful sound. After her debut at the distillery last year was a complete sell-out, it’s no surprise they’ve invited her back. This is an artist with some serious talent and a growing fanbase. What makes her music so special? Spirit of Yorkshire’s marketing director, Jenni Ashwood, is clearly a big fan and perfectly sums up what makes her performance a must-see. She says:
“Em’s influences range from notable artists like London Grammar to powerful vocalists like RAYE and jazz icons like Amy Winehouse. Her writing is always assisted by heartfelt lyrics and soulful vocals from a twenty something year old’s perspective of navigating the complexities of life. She often incorporates jazzy riffs from Max the sax too!”
Her songs are all about real-life stuff, telling stories with honesty that people can relate to. And it’s not just her – she’s often joined by Max the sax, who adds another layer of cool with his smooth, jazzy riffs. This isn’t just a girl with a guitar; it’s a full, rich musical experience.
More than just the music
What really makes an artist stand out is when they have a story and a passion that goes beyond the stage. Last year, Em released a song she’d written specially for ‘Andy’s Man Club’, a brilliant charity focused on men’s mental health. It adds a whole other layer of depth to her work. This Distillery Session is more than just an event; it’s a chance to support a local musician from Scarborough who is not only incredibly talented but also making a positive impact.
The important bits: tickets and grub
Right, let’s get down to the practical stuff. How do you get in on this amazing night? Tickets for the event are available to book right now, and you can grab them online through the Spirit of Yorkshire website. There are two options to choose from, depending on how hungry you are. For just £15, you get your ticket to the gig itself. But, if you want to make a proper evening of it, you can go for the £25 ticket. This includes the music and a delicious-sounding supper. We’re talking a classic, comforting Jacket Potato with a hearty chilli supper. And don’t worry if you’re a veggie, there’s an option for you too. Live music and a hot meal on a Saturday night – what’s not to love? Mark your calendar for Saturday, 25th April.
Make a day of it at the distillery
Why just pop in for the evening? The Spirit of Yorkshire distillery is a great place to visit any day of the week. If you’re heading over for the Distillery Session with Em Louise, you could arrive a bit earlier and explore what else is on offer. They run tours of the distillery seven days a week, so you can see for yourself how they make their famous Yorkshire whisky. It’s a fascinating look behind the scenes. The Pot Still Coffee Shop, where the gig is held, is also open throughout the day. It’s the perfect spot to relax before the show starts. They serve lovely home-made refreshments from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sundays.
