Described as a vibrant new hub for communal living, 79-room Jonas opened in August after two years in the planning. It’s all about bringing people together and providing affordable and flexible accommodation options.
The £2million refurbishment transformed a tired 1990s student accommodation block into a vibrant place to stay. Decor is infused with Sheffield character – locally upcycled furniture, graffiti walls, artwork based on Sheffield sayings, shelves stacked with many examples of “Sheffield in a jar”.
A key feature of Jonas is its ground floor, devoted entirely to communal social space. Designed to foster connectivity between people of differing backgrounds, it features a cafe-bar, a gaming/cinema room, games room, three lounges and two quiet areas for study.
Jonas Hotel is owned by The University of Sheffield and follows the ‘buy local, support local’ ethos of its commercial arm UNICUS, which runs
Halifax Hall Hotel, Inox Dine restaurant and numerous campus bars and restaurants.
