The Deep, Hull

With over 5,000 fish and animals in one spectacular venue, The Deep in Hull is shore to be a hit!

The Endless Ocean is the highlight of any visit; containing 2.5 million litres of water and 87 tonnes of salt, the giant tank is home to some of the most incredible animals in the sea.

Built to represent the vast oceans, you’ll get a fish-eye view into a spectacular underwater world. See a variety of sharks and rays, including white tip reef sharks, zebra sharks, honeycomb whiptail rays and the only pair of Green Sawfish in the UK. There is even a pair of rescued Loggerhead sea turtles!

10 metres below the surface, you can enjoy watching the creatures gliding right over your head in the underwater viewing tunnel.  If you’re lucky enough to spot one of the divers caring for or feeding the animals, don’t forget to give them a wave! Journey back to the surface in the UK’s only underwater lift or by taking the Scenic Stairway with beautiful views of the ‘ocean’.

In the chilly white space of the Kingdom of Ice live the VIPs of Hull – the Very Important Penguins! Get a feel of what it’s like to visit polar oceans by touching the real ice walls, and watch the penguins being fed (twice each day) or even the staff cleaning up their bright yellow poo!

Explore further and you’ll see the Lagoon of Light (home to an array of tropical fish and corals), over 4 billion years of ocean history in the Awakening Seas, and the Amazon Flooded Forest – home to the Black pacu, an enormous vegetarian relative of the piranha and three different types of catfish.
