A tiny new resident is capturing hearts at the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park — a newborn Red Titi monkey, the first of its kind to be born in the park’s Amazonas walkthrough reserve.
Born to first-time parents Jessie and Javari, who only arrived at the park in November 2024, the adorable infant is thriving under the watchful eyes of its doting family. Guests lucky enough to visit this summer may spot the baby clinging tightly to either parent, as Red Titi monkeys are known for sharing parenting duties and displaying strong family bonds.

Greg Clifton, Section Manager of Primates at the park, said:
“We are very excited by the arrival of the new Titi monkey. The baby is in excellent health and Jessie is proving to be a very loving mother. Javari is never far away and is keeping a close watch — reflecting the strong family ties that Red Titi monkeys are known for. They are very affectionate animals, always grooming and cuddling each other, which makes them very entertaining for visitors.”
This is a special milestone for Yorkshire Wildlife Park, marking the first primate birth in the Amazonas reserve since it opened. The immersive habitat is home to a range of South American species, including the critically endangered Golden Lion Tamarins, Silvery Marmosets, Patagonian Mara (Hares), Agouti, and of course, the ever-popular Capybaras.
Titi monkeys are known for their fluffy tails, expressive faces and vocal calls that can be heard echoing through the trees. While not classified as endangered, they do face growing threats in the wild from deforestation, habitat fragmentation and human activity.
“This is a really special milestone for the park,” added Greg. “We are delighted to be able to contribute to their conservation and look forward to seeing the infant grow.”
Red Titi monkeys also play a vital role in the health of their rainforest homes, helping to disperse seeds and support biodiversity across their tropical ecosystems.
