You are invited to the 2017 award-winning Festival of Thrift, the UK’s National Celebration of Sustainable Living. Taking place at Kirkleatham Estate, Redcar in the Tees Valley on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September. With a fabulous atmosphere, activities for all the family and great food and shopping, it’s two days filled to the brim with fun and creativity. A Festival like no other.
The Festival invites you to get hands-on with an exciting mix of creativity, making, fixing and learning as well as discovering how to save money, be environmentally savvy and live a rich and fulfilling life.
The event has something for everyone including inventive and inspiring music, performances and art, stalls selling all manner of upcycled, recycled and second-hand goods - not found on the high street – look out for thought-provoking talks, workshops and demonstrations designed to pass on skills and thrifty tips and tricks to new generations. Food is an important part of any Festival, and the Festival of Thrift takes it to another level, come along for innovative tasty food and drink including handmade goodies at the stalls, the chance to dine in a camper van at Bistro Du Van or in the wild meadow of the walled garden with a specially designed menu ‘Saltburn, the Town is the Menu’.
This year’s Festival focuses on growing and the power of nature and how people can be empowered by sharing differing points of view of the world as well as ideas, thoughts, experiences and skills.
New highlights for 2017 include a magical immersive mystery tour in a specially converted double decker bus, ideas for creating your own thrifty ceremonies, the creation of a den-built island and the chance to become a citizen of Cardboardia, talking rubbish tips, campfire cooking, guerrilla gardening and a potting shed on wheels and we’ll be welcoming back national treasure and upcycling guru Max McMurdo
