Trying your hand for the first time or perfecting your technique, Yorkshire's climbing walls are ready and waiting.
The Leeds Wall. is Yorkshire's premier climbing centre, established in 1995 by local climbers. You have a go at climbing on a variety of walls, there's something for everyone. The friendly instructors will take you and your family climbing up the walls. If you're an experienced climber then you can just register and away you go.
They offer family taster sessions and beginners courses to teach you everything you need to climb safely. For regular climbing kids can join the Lizards Club or come to the Holiday Climbing Camp for an action packed day out during the school holidays. For those who like to keep their feet on the ground you're welcome to grab a hot drink and watch from the viewing area.
The climbing walls are up to 15 metres high and with 200 routes from grade 3 to 8a you'll be spoilt for choice. The main competition wall has a 5 metre overhang where members of the British Climbing Team practice. They also have an extensive bouldering wall and a training area with rings and circuit boards. For those who like a bigger challenge you can take on the 40ft abseil from The Tower or practice your dry tooling before going off on an ice climbing trip. During the summer come and enjoy climbing in North Yorkshire and the Peak District on an experience days.
They are located at the heart of Yorkshire, easily accessible from the M62 and M1 and have free car parking and are open 7 days a week.
The newest addition to Yorkshire's climbing wall collection is ROKT Climbing Gym, the UK's highest and biggest, located in Brighouse, close to J25 on the M62.
There's something to suit all abilities here, with plenty of taster sessions and courses from the beginner to Sport Lead Climbing, as well as holiday camps for the kids - abseil down the outside of this amazing old flour mill with the world looking up at you, slide down inside the huge old flour silo, easy through to really hard climbs, play on the bouldering walls and traverse walls, while learning valuable climbing skills. The friendly chaps down at ROKT also organise events throughtout the year, including socials, film nights, guest speakers, as well as adult and kiddies parties. And they've got even more exciting stuff planned for Phase II, watch this space...
