Terms and Conditions

  1. The competition is organised and promoted by Welcome to Yorkshire.

  2. I acknowledge and agree to abide fully by the rules, regulations, terms and conditions for the Song for Yorkshire (the “Rules”). I agree to observe all procedures and obey all reasonable instructions in force or given by a member of Welcome to Yorkshire and/or any location staff in connection with the competition and the management of the locations and the fire safety and security arrangements in those locations.

  3. There are no limitations on age. If I am under 18 years old, I must obtain the consent of my parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and enter their details as provided in the application form prior to my entry into the competition.

  4. I must be resident in the UK. I may be asked to provide Welcome to Yorkshire with supporting documentation in order to substantiate this (i.e. birth certificate and/or valid passport). I acknowledge that the Company reserves the right to require at any time proof of my identity and/or eligibility.

  5. I acknowledge that the purpose of the competition is the search for a Song for Yorkshire, the lyrics must celebrate the amazing county of Yorkshire, maximum length of 4 minutes and the competition will require a vocal and musical performance.

  6. All personal details and/or information given in my application either in this form or otherwise must be truthful, accurate and in no way misleading. I undertake to inform Welcome to Yorkshire immediately if any such information becomes inaccurate.

  7. Applications made on behalf of a group must have the consent of all members of the group before applying. I understand the nature of the competition and in signing this agreement I hereby consent to the recording and use of my contribution to the competition on the terms and conditions herein stated.

  8. Songs may have multiple cowriters. All cowriters’ names should be entered on the entry form. Cowriters names should be separated by a slash and space (e.g. first writer / second writer / third writer).

  9. Songs should consist of the contestant's own work and should not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties.

  10. I am free to enter into this agreement and hereby agree to indemnify Welcome to Yorkshire in respect of all actions, proceedings, claims, damages and other liabilities which may be brought against or incurred by Welcome to Yorkshire as a result of the breach of any of my warranties, representations or obligations contained in this agreement. I agree that in the event of any breach of this agreement by Welcome to Yorkshire, I shall not be entitled to injunct the competition and any legal remedy I may have shall lie in an action at law for damages only.

  11. Entrants must carefully check video or audio files and links before entry. It is the entrant’s responsibility to check that submitted recordings/films and files are playing correctly before submitting their work. If faulty non-playing recordings/films are submitted the entry will be marked void by the judges.

  12. No changes may be made to song entries or to entrants’ details after submission. This includes changes to song title, category, writer's name, audio file, written lyrics and all and any other changes including the email contact address.

  13. Contestants may enter as many songs as they wish and there is no limit on the number of songs that may be entered.

  14. The LNER Song for Yorkshire will be judged based on the song and its composition. The quality of performance, vocals and production will however be taken into consideration, but will not be the key decision-making factor.

  15. All prizes are non-transferable and will be awarded to the first name as it appears on the entry form. In the case of cowriters, the fair division and distribution of prizes among writers is the responsibility of the winners. Responsibility for the fulfilment and delivery of prizes resides with the relevant partners and sponsors and Welcome to Yorkshire shall take no part in any disputes therein arising. Welcome to Yorkshire reserves the right in its sole discretion to substitute any and all prizes with prizes of comparable value.

  16. It is the entrant’s responsibility to provide correct contact details when entering the contest and to ensure that they can receive emails from the contest. Prizes and emails will be sent to the contact email address supplied on entry. If the contestant does not see or receive prizes or notifications or emails because they provided an incorrect email address, or because they failed to check their spam folder, or because their email account is over limit, or because they have a spam blocking system in place that requires verification from the sender, or because they failed to check their emails, or for any other reason, Welcome to Yorkshire will bear no responsibility or liability.
  17. The overall winning prize provided by Welcome to Yorkshire will consist of £1,000 cash prize and the chance to perform the song live in front of an audience (in line with any current COVID 19 guidelines).

  18. The Song for Yorkshire’s obligations to entrants are to judge each song, publish the shortlisted results online, list the winning writer/s and the winning song, oversee allocation of the winners' prizes and issue printable certificates online for each entrant and no other services are provided or implied. The contest does not supply or offer individual critiques of songs entered. Certificates will remain online for printing and downloading for at least three months after the contest results are announced. The judge’s decisions are final, and binding and entrants agree by entering the contest to accept and abide by the judge’s decisions.

  19. Entrants retain full song ownership rights and all copyrights to all songs submitted. Entering the contest does not in any way affect the writers' ownership of their songs.

  20. I, the entrant, agree to make myself available, at my own expense, at such times and in such locations as the Song for Yorkshire may reasonably require in respect of the competition including without limitation rehearsals, publicity, press calls, photographs, recordings and/or other contributions. Such events will be organised and paid for by the Song for Yorkshire.

  21. Welcome to Yorkshire (or other such company as chosen by Welcome to Yorkshire) may film and/or record performances at the events. I agree to the use of this material by Welcome to Yorkshire for marketing and promotional purposes, including but not limited to national and international broadcast, including rights to reproduce and edit footage. Welcome to Yorkshire will own all intellectual property rights in any film and sound recording of the performances.

  22. By participating in the contest entrants agree to be bound by these rules and by any subsequent published revisions of these rules and by the decisions of the Song for Yorkshire which are final in all matters relating to the contest.

  23. I acknowledge that Welcome to Yorkshire reserves the right to remove or disqualify me from the competition at their absolute discretion and that the decision of Welcome to Yorkshire is final. I acknowledge that the Welcome to Yorkshire will have no liability to me if I am unable to attend or take part in the competition.

  24. Welcome to Yorkshire reserves the right to disqualify any contestant if they supply untruthful, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information, have failed to abide by the Rules and/or are in breach of the terms hereof.

  25. Welcome to Yorkshire reserves the right to disqualify any contestant if they are deemed to be acting outside the spirit of the competition. The Company’s decisions shall be final.

  26. Welcome to Yorkshire will endeavour to operate the competition and apply the Rules and conditions of the competition as devised by Welcome to Yorkshire.

  27. The information provided in the application may be used in connection with the production and promotion of the competition. By submitting my details, I am agreeing that from time to time Welcome to Yorkshire’s partners, sponsors or associated companies may contact me with information regarding relevant services they feel may be of interest to me. Should I not wish to receive further information from Welcome to Yorkshire and associated companies about their services I am to email ‘opt-out’ to songforyorkshire@yorkshire.com.   28. Entry in the Song for Yorkshire constitutes permission to use winners' names, likenesses, recordings, videos and voices for promotional and publicity purposes on Welcome to Yorkshire’s own websites and on other third-party websites and in publicity and promotional materials and press releases. This permission can be withdrawn by the entrant at any time upon written request.
