The 10 Most Romantic Proposal Spots across Yorkshire

If you're looking for a romantic spot to pop the question, or just set the scene for a loved up adventure, this is the list for you. Don't forget to stay local and stick to government restrictions.

It’s been so very difficult to whittle the list down to just ten within a county famed for its scenery and heritage sites but if we absolutely had to pick, here would be our choices:

The North York Moors

Is there anything really more breath taking than 1,400 miles of unspoilt peaceful countryside views?

Harewood House – Leeds

Impeccably pruned gardens surround this Treasure House of England filled with art collections that rival the finest across Britain. Within the 100 acres of grounds there’s sure to be one spot perfect for asking for the hand of the one you cherish the most.

The Cow & Calf – Ilkley

Spectacular views of Ilkley and beyond are promised atop the rock formation affectionately referred to as the Cow & Calf. A fantastic photography spot if you want the special moment captured in film as well as your hearts.

Manor House - Lindley

If you’re looking for a more private or over-dinner ask then Manor House is a gorgeous location to book ahead and take your love to get engaged either in the stunning Lantern Room Restaurant, across the grounds or in your stunning boutique room after a fine dining experience.

Newby Hall & Gardens – Skelton on Ure

Is your groom or bride-to-be a Downton Abbey fan? Then this could be the perfect backdrop for creating one of your most precious held memories together. With the Hall itself, gardens and boating options you’re not short of options at this location.

Oulton Hall – Leeds

If you’re looking for the full staycation experience to spend the remainder of your stay in celebration, look no further than this 18th century mansion with award-winning cuisine, a spa and golf complex!

York Minster – York

Breath-taking medieval architecture at the heart of Christianity in the North of the UK is labelled a truly sacred place with the love of God at its heart – attracting visitors across the globe for hundreds of years. One look will tell you why!

Castle Howard - York

Bridgeton fans will rejoice at even the prospect of a visit to one of the most magnificent houses in the north of England. Take a promenade across the landscaped gardens, open daily throughout lockdown for your daily stroll with plenty of opportunities to stop and make a proposal.

Filey Beach - Scarborough

5 miles of golden sand, rock pools and coastal bliss, named Beach of The Year back in 2018 and a truly romantic visit at sunrise or sunset to add to your list of romantic visits.

Saltmarshe Hall - Howden

Last but not least and one to put right to the top of your staycation list is Salmarshe Hall. With multiple suites to choose from to best suit your other half it’s the idyllic countryside retreat for the perfect private proposal.

There are so many more great spots across the county and we always advise to only visit these romantic locations if you are local and save them for when government guidelines allow if you’re a bit further afield.
