White Rose Awards 2017

This award covers arts & culture based experiences that engage with both residents and visitors. This award celebrates both one off events and bodies of work over a period of time, including dance, drama, visual arts, music, film and theatre.

Hull Truck Theatre

Hull Truck Theatre is a pioneering theatre with a unique, powerful, contemporary Northern Voice, locally rooted and national in reach, inspiring artists, existing audiences and supporting communities to reach their greatest potential. As part of their Hull UK City of Culture 2017 programme, the theatre has produced work at an unprecedented scale with some of the largest cast sizes every to grace the stage. A thrilling year has seen an exceptional range of internationally renowned artists and companies to produce world premieres in Hull.

Impressions Gallery

Established in 1972 as the second specialist independent photography galleries in Europe, Impressions Gallery has grown to become one of the UK’s leading venues for photography, showing significant work by regional, national and international artists. Situated in the heart of Bradford and overlooking the multi‐award winning City Park, the gallery presents an inspiring programme of free exhibitions and a rich mix of events and creative workshops. There’s always something new to see and do to get our visitors looking, thinking and talking about the best in contemporary photography.

Kunsthuis Gallery

Located 15 miles north of York in the beautiful scenic village of Crayke, the Kunsthuis Gallery celebrates the best of Dutch art alongside the increasingly well regarded and emerging UK artists. The contemporary art gallery, a converted barn, residing in the elegant setting of Dutch House features a unique range of paintings, sculptures, prints, photography, ceramics, glass and jewellery. The programme of exhibits is refreshed every eight weeks to boast new and innovative artists.

Spear at Semerwater – Dales Countryside Museum

For two days and two nights, Semerwater in the Yorkshire Dales, commissioned by the Dales Countryside Museum, played host to the new public artwork by David Murphy, Spear. Murphy’s project, which highlights the connections between the museum’s collection and the magical landscape from where many of the objects came, was selected in October 2015 and was realised in October 2016, the artist and museum worked closely together for the duration of the project.

The Craft Centre and Design Gallery

Established in 1982, the aim of The Craft Centre and Design Gallery is to take you on a journey to experience the talent, skill, originality and beauty of contemporary craft made by UK designer makers today. Every year the seasonal exhibition programme brings together the very best of handmade contemporary jewellery, ceramics, limited edition prints, glass, wood, textiles and works in mixed media exploring specific themes. They support new and emerging makers as well as more established makers and for the past 35 years have introduced thousands of talented individuals to visitors of Leeds.

West Yorkshire Playhouse

West Yorkshire Playhouse is a leading UK producing theatre; a cultural hub, a place where people gather to tell and share stories and to engage in world class theatre. The aim is to create work which is pioneering and relevant, seeking out the best companies and artists for inspirational theatre in the heart of Yorkshire. From large scale spectacle, to intimate performance they develop and make work for the stage, for found spaces, for touring, for schools and community centres. Creating work to entertain and inspire.

Yorkshire Young Sinfonia

The 2016 WRA winners, Yorkshire Young Sinfonia, is a unique youth orchestra, delivering life changing residential courses for young musicians and unforgettable concerts with some of the world’s finest soloists. The Sinfonia provides young musicians aged between 12 and 18 from Yorkshire with a residential orchestra course, helping them to develop both musically and socially. This is delivered by some of the most exciting tutors from around Europe who not only play at the highest standard, but are innovators in musical education.
