Welcome to Yorkshire
News • June 30th, 2026
|The Merrion Centre in Leeds is gearing up to welcome a unique new shopping experience this summer with the launch of The Mini Mall, a vibrant retail and food destination. Set to open its doors on Saturday, 25th July 2026, The Mini Mall will serve as a flagship venue for independent makers, local artisans, and food businesses, bringing a fresh atmosphere to the heart of Leeds’ Arena Quarter.
The Mini Mall Concept
The Mini Mall is designed to be a community-focused retail space, covering an impressive 4,885 square feet. It aims to showcase a variety of independent Yorkshire brands, including homeware designers, fashion labels, and street food vendors. This innovative concept operates like a 'satellite department store', providing established independent businesses with fully staffed, centrally managed retail bays. This set-up allows brands to concentrate on what they do best: creating and selling their products.

Shaz Westfield, the founder of Eventszo, which manages The Mini Mall, explained the vision behind this project:
“The Mini Mall was created to give independent businesses the opportunity to trade in a prime city-centre location without the barriers that often come with traditional retail. Yorkshire is home to an incredible community of makers, creators, and food businesses, and our goal is to provide a platform where they can grow, connect with new customers, and thrive.”
Support for Local Entrepreneurs
This initiative is not just about shopping; it’s also about supporting local entrepreneurship. The Mini Mall is set to act as an economic accelerator for micro-businesses in the region. It will create five direct retail and operational roles to manage the central area, helping to boost local employment opportunities.
The choice of the Merrion Centre as the location for The Mini Mall was strategic. The Centre is known for its high daily footfall and its diverse mix of visitors, including students and city-centre workers. This makes it an ideal spot for independent traders looking to reach a vibrant audience. Charles Newman, asset management director at Town Centre Securities PLC, which owns The Merrion Centre, highlighted the importance of supporting unique businesses.
“What makes the Merrion Centre different is the breadth and character of our occupier mix. We’ve always championed businesses that bring something unique to the city centre.”
A Dynamic Shopping Experience
Visitors to The Mini Mall can expect a dynamic and ever-evolving shopping experience. The venue will not only feature a range of products from local makers but will also include a Mini Food Hall where shoppers can enjoy delicious offerings from independent food creators. The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live showcases from the brands, and free tastings, allowing visitors to sample products and meet the makers behind them.
Date of Opening: Saturday, 25th July 2026
Location: Merrion Centre, Leeds
Features: Retail bays for independent brands, Mini Food Hall, live showcases, free tastings
Unlike traditional department stores that often focus on corporate branding, The Mini Mall prioritises visibility for independent businesses. This means that the spotlight will be on the artisans, bakers, and designers working within the space, emphasising the community-driven ethos at the heart of the project.
A Celebration of Yorkshire Creativity
The Mini Mall is set to celebrate the creativity and talent that Yorkshire has to offer. By providing a platform for local businesses, it helps shoppers forge a direct connection with the people behind the products they purchase. This kind of interaction adds a personal touch to the shopping experience, making it more meaningful for customers.
As the opening date approaches, excitement is building for what The Mini Mall will bring to Leeds. It promises to be a vibrant hub where local talent can shine, and shoppers can discover unique products that reflect the rich culture of Yorkshire. With its focus on community and support for independent enterprises, The Mini Mall is poised to become a beloved addition to the Merrion Centre and a must-visit destination for residents and visitors alike.
