Stunning architecture

Castle Howard. One of England’s most beautiful houses, Castle Howard was built in the 18th-century by Sir John Vanbrugh for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. The magnificent house sits in a landscape of rolling hills and unexpected monuments; Visitors discover dramatic interiors containing world-renowned collections, while they listen to friendly and knowledgeable guides share the stories of previous generations.

Scampston Hall has remained within the same family for over 300 years and it has rich history. Various owners have, over the years, left their legacy – from remodelling the façade, collecting paintings and antiques, to commissioning Capability Brown to do a complete upheaval of the formal gardens in favour of a more natural landscape. Within the Walled Garden, the recently restored Victorian Conservatory now houses exhibitions about the history of gardening at Scampston.
