(Apologies, I previously posted this review on the wrong campus. This review relates to my time at Hillsborough campus and reflects my experience from last year. Im sharing it to accurately reflect where I studied instead of the wrong campus) I joined this college in September 2023 and overall, my experience has been mixed. It’s not the worst, but it’s certainly not the best. My first year was quite disappointing, some teachers were frequently on their phones or absent from class for extended times (sometimes over 30 minutes) without any explanation. However, I want to commend Dan S. and Rachel M. for their consistency and dedication to delivering quality lessons. Fortunately, my second year has been a much better experience. The teachers are more engaged, supportive, and genuinely determined to help students succeed. I now feel much more comfortable with my education. Special thanks to Ken C. and Ben S at the games design course. for their excellent teaching, consistency, and friendly approach.they’ve made a real difference in my learning experience for this college since the very beginning. Also want to give special mention to Lewis D, my English teacher. His teaching methods were brilliant and really helped me understand the subject better, which contributed to me achieving a much improved grade. He made lessons engaging and approachable, and I really appreciated his support, that being said, there are still some ongoing issues. Lessons are sometimes canceled without any prior notice, which is frustrating and a waste of time when I’ve made the effort to come in. Additionally, vandalism in the toilets is a serious problem, it's disgusting and shows a lack of respect from some students and God knows staff aswell Overall, while the college has its flaws, my experience has improved in the second year. With better communication and stricter campus management, it could be a much better place for students. Also to mention the attitude of some of the staff members is just down right pathetic, had an incident with one previously although that issue was sorted but was worth mentioning. Some of them quite careless and gormless. With my sibling newly joining September, hope its improved But overall 2 stars definitely...
Last year at this college was great but, this new year is terrible like especially if you haven't made any friends this place is not the best as it was last year. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone like they say make friends oh yeah but then actually they don't. This is the worst ever experience here at hillsborough college. There are some good bits about it but the education this year has not been the best unlike last year that went well. Y1 really fun and great education Y2 some good bits but the education is a bit iffy. Especially its tricky for people that has any disabilities that are struggling with loudness and sometimes rowdy sometimes.
the entire building but mostly the E corridors are genuinely far to hot to work in, everyone knows this and working in such heat is unbearable even in the winter months, most classrooms have no sign of air-con and the ones without windows get far too hot, making it impossible to concentrate.
My son plays basketball here. Great facilities.
The absolute worst place to book basketball, do NOT book this place. The staff’s attitude is absolutely abismal towards guests attending to watch games. Many guests had taken chairs to sit down and watch as benches were full with spectators, and due to severe allergies and medical issues, i cannot sit on the floor so I pulled out a chair, and the receptionist came and threatened to kick us out and started raising his voice at us, then when my friend said to not be rude, as I am very ill and also have anxiety, he started threatening to kick us out again. A gross abuse of power at this campus by the evening reception staff, hopefully this issue is a one time thing and can be resolved with training. My basketball team will not be booking sessions here any longer. EDIT and update: We ended up staying to watch the basketball game and went to speak to the guard to try diffuse the tension, as we assumed it was a miscommunication and wanted to clear up our side of the story, the guard threatened us saying that if we were “outside the school gates” it would be a different story essentially trying to say he would beat us up as we look weaker than him, if we were all out in the public. Quite shameful from staff at a school, especially thinking about all the kids around.
