My boyfriend and I were planning to go bowling but decided to try something more engaging. We'd previously been to The Great Escapes Game in the city center, which has excellent reviews and service, but found the experience a bit frustrating. The puzzles felt simultaneously too simple in retrospect yet poorly signposted, and the props had a handmade, DIY quality despite being a chain. Lock Up was much better and here's why: The props and fixtures had clearly been prototyped and sent to professional fabricators to be custom made. The materials and tech were high quality and robust, which made the experience authentic and immersive. You can tell the owner has put significant time and effort into the design. The puzzles had an intuitive flow that was challenging but fair. We were given hints at exactly the right moments, sometimes proactively but never too early, which kept our momentum going without making it feel easy. We didn't finish in time, but the solutions we saw afterwards were pretty ingenious. The owner was really friendly and the pricing is very reasonable. This is a much more bespoke experience than the larger chains, clearly designed with care rather than mass appeal. Highly recommend for couples or small groups looking for a properly challenging, well-crafted escape room.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My fiancé and I recently tried our very first escape room experience, and we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction! We started with a beginner room and then tackled an intermediate one, and both were absolutely fantastic. The puzzles were clever, fun, and perfectly balanced for newcomers like us, but still engaging enough to keep us on our toes. What made the experience even more special was the owner, who built the rooms himself. He was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about escape rooms, which made the whole visit feel personal and unique. By the end, we were hooked! We can’t wait to try more escape rooms! If you’re new to escape rooms or even an experienced puzzler, this place is a must visit. Truly an unforgettable experience!
I recently came to lockup for my birthday with 2 friends as I wanted to try something new. We were shown around by Liam upon entering and we got to meet Hovis. We completed deep space brig with 1 minutes and 30 seconds remaining after being given helpful clues. I was blown away by the amount of effort put into the room’s design and puzzles. I would recommend Lockup to anyone who wants to try something new and to have a fun time :)
We booked the Deep Space room for a group of 14 year olds and it was brilliant. Great mix of puzzles that required lots of different types of problem-solving, so everyone in the group had a chance to get involved. We loved it - highly recommend!
As a big escape room fan since the days of the 2010's flash games, and having done nearly every escape room in Sheffield and plenty in other cities I can honestly say The Lockup is second to none. The rooms are extremely varied with creative puzzles and fun mechanics I've never seen anywhere else. Most rooms have a secondary objective in case you complete the first with time to spare. It's very clear that the rooms are built by someone who loves escape rooms/puzzles. Liam is a really lovely guy and Hovis (the dog) is an absolute delight also. Cannot recommend highly enough for escape room fans. Would especially recommend Mutiny.
