AMAZE Sheffield 2024 is set to captivate audiences with its unique blend of arthouse games, industry talks, and electrifying music.
Scheduled for August 2nd at the FORGE Warehouse, this one-day event brings together international and local artists for an unforgettable experience. From experimental video games to live performances, AMAZE Sheffield promises a day filled with creativity and innovation.
International and Local Talent
The lineup for AMAZE Sheffield features a mix of international and local artists. Renowned names like DoseOne, Claire Kwong, Emilie Breslavetz, and Robin Baumgarten will share the stage with Sheffield’s own ZUBZ, INLIMEN, and Lucy Cheesman (also known as Heavy Lifting). These artists will showcase their talents through performances and interactive exhibits, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.
Daytime Events and Exhibitions
During the daytime, AMAZE Sheffield offers a free-to-attend event where visitors can explore a variety of experimental and arthouse video games. Highlights include the award-winning game Waxwing by common opera and the UK debut of Robin Baumgarten’s Hyper Wobbler. Local talent will also be on display with games like Alex Johansson’s Glow Golf and a special 20-player version of the indie hit Gang Beasts.
Workshops and Hypertalks
AMAZE Sheffield is not just about entertainment; it’s also a platform for learning and collaboration. Two exclusive workshops will provide hands-on experiences in game creation and digital art. “Introduction to LED Basics,” led by Alex Johansson and Robin Baumgarten, will teach participants how to create small-scale video games using LED lights. Meanwhile, Lucy Cheesman and Ray Morrison will guide attendees through the process of Live Coding for music with Strudel.
In addition to the workshops, the festival will feature a series of Hypertalks – quick, five-minute presentations by industry leaders. These talks will cover a range of topics, including Dr. Phoenix Perry’s “Embodied Games: A Bot Party Case Study,” Claire Kwong’s “Playing With Touch and Intimacy,” and Sarah Brin’s “AI Creative Futures.” The Hypertalks will be hosted by the Spanish award-winning game designer Marina Diez.
Evening Program and Music Lineup
As the day transitions into night, AMAZE Sheffield will shift to an evening program produced in collaboration with FORGE Warehouse and Interworld Media. The music lineup includes international artists like DoseOne and local electronic acts such as INLIMEN and Heavy Lifting. This eclectic mix of music will provide a vibrant soundtrack to the night’s festivities.
