Dinosaurs have captured our imaginations for millions of years, and now, they’re set to make a roaring return to the centre of York. Thanks to the efforts of York BID, this unique event promises an unforgettable day filled with prehistoric fun for visitors of all ages.

A jurassic adventure in York city centre

On Saturday, 7th September, York will be taken over by some of the most iconic dinosaurs, offering a thrilling experience for families and dinosaur enthusiasts alike. From 2 pm to 6 pm, the heart of the city—Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square—will transform into a prehistoric playground. Among the stars of the show are Betsy the Triceratops and Roxy the T-Rex, accompanied by a group of baby dinosaurs, all under the watchful eyes of skilled dinosaur rangers.

Visitors will have the chance to get up close with these lifelike creatures, snap selfies, and even hear them roar! With some of these Jurassic giants reaching up to 8 metres in length, they will be hard to miss as they roam the city streets.

More than just dinosaurs

The Dinosaur Experience is not just about meeting these ancient beasts. The event will also feature representatives from York’s police and fire services, who will be on-site with their emergency vehicles. This offers a fantastic opportunity for families to engage with local emergency services and even explore the vehicles up close.

As dusk approaches, the event takes on a magical quality with themed lighting in the surrounding trees, creating a mystical atmosphere that complements the prehistoric vibe. It’s the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the spectacle.

Important information for visitors

The Dinosaur Experience will proceed in most weather conditions, but in the event of rain, some of the dinosaurs might seek shelter, so be sure to check the weather forecast and come prepared.
