Two businesses from the beautiful Yorkshire coast have come together to create something new—barrel aged coffee that combines the best of both worlds: locally roasted coffee and award winning whisky. Bridlington based Three Ridings Coffee and Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in Hunmanby are the brains behind this collaboration.
The result? A coffee that doesn’t just wake you up—it tells a story.

A coffee that tastes of Yorkshire’s whisky heritage
The idea was born when the team at Spirit of Yorkshire approached Three Ridings Coffee to collaborate for the second time on a barrel aged coffee. The magic happens with an ex-Filey Bay Flagship whisky cask.
Here’s the process: raw coffee beans are aged for 20 days inside a whisky cask that once held the distillery’s Flagship single malt. The cask, labelled “1929”, was previously used for bourbon and has absorbed all the amazing flavours of the whisky—citrus, caramel and chocolate.
Once the beans have absorbed the whisky character Three Ridings Coffee roast them to perfection. The result? A brew that whispers of whisky on the finish but without the alcohol—perfect for mornings, evenings or whenever you fancy something bold and different.
Why this works
According to Leo Jarvis, co-founder of Three Ridings Coffee, Yorkshire coffee and whisky are a match made in heaven.
“We were chuffed to work with Spirit of Yorkshire again,” Leo said. “Their casks bring out such amazing flavours in the coffee. It’s something really unique.”
For Joe Clark, Spirit of Yorkshire’s whisky director, this was about experimentation.
“We’re always looking for ways to showcase the character of our single malt whisky,”
he said.
“This project brings together the best of Yorkshire craftsmanship—quality beans and quality whisky.”

A taste of Yorkshire
Spirit of Yorkshire is one of the only distilleries in the UK that uses 100% homegrown barley to make its single malt. Its Filey Bay whisky is popular in the UK but also exports to many countries. Now this field to bottle philosophy has been applied to a coffee that’s as unique as the people and the place.
Enjoy by the fire this Christmas or share with someone who loves coffee and whisky. It’s more than just a coffee, it’s a Yorkshire thing.
