Get ready for a literary celebration with a touch of roaring ’20s glamour! The Huddersfield Literature Festival (HuddLitFest25) is bringing back its much-loved Tipi at the Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT) courtyard this May.

And what better way to kick things off than with a Great Gatsby-themed launch party to celebrate 100 years of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel?

A Tipi Full of Stories, Music, and Fun

From 13-18 May, the Tipi will be the go-to spot for festivalgoers looking for exciting events, creative workshops, and a place to unwind. Whether you’re a book lover, a music fan, or just fancy soaking up the festival vibes, there’s something for everyone:

  • Open Mic Nights – Your chance to share poetry, stories, or music.
  • Bollywood Dance – Learn some dazzling moves.
  • Craft Sessions – Get creative with hands-on workshops.
  • Business Networking Events – Meet and connect with local professionals.
  • Kids’ Activities – Meet Spider-Man and Peter Rabbit and take part in fun art and craft sessions.

Michelle Hodgson, Festival Director, shared her excitement:
“We are thrilled to bring the Tipi back to the theatre courtyard for a second year, thanks to our partners and new sponsor, Huddersfield BID. The Tipi will be open to all, and we’re hoping the town will come out and enjoy a drink in the May sunshine!”

A Community Effort

The return of the Tipi is a collaborative effort, made possible through a partnership between Huddersfield Literature Festival, Huddersfield Live, and LBT, with sponsorship from Huddersfield BID.

  • Sam Watt, Director of Huddersfield Live, is eager to welcome locals:
“We look forward to working with the Festival on the Tipi programme – from Open Mics to musical performances, workshops, and more. And, of course, the Tipi will be a great place for the community to relax and enjoy some refreshments.”
  • Sam Sharp, Manager of Huddersfield BID, highlighted the festival’s impact on the town:
“Huddersfield is blessed with another amazing Literary Festival. The programme is packed with entertainment, thought-provoking stories, and important themes that reflect our lives. We hope the Tipi will bring extra engagement and footfall to the town.”
  • Becky Dash, Chief Executive of Lawrence Batley Theatre, expressed her enthusiasm:
“Our mission is to be the creative heart of the town, and working with HuddLitFest helps bring new audiences into our beautiful spaces.”
