Hull’s Museums Quarter will come alive this weekend with the return of Medieval Mayhem, a family-friendly event offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of medieval life.

Taking place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July, this free event promises an array of activities, displays, and performances that will captivate visitors of all ages.

Step Back in Time with Medieval Knights

The Museums Quarter will transform into a vibrant medieval encampment, allowing visitors to meet knights in armour and witness their combat skills firsthand. The medieval combat society will demonstrate a series of engaging combat displays throughout the weekend, providing an exciting opportunity to experience the might and chivalry of medieval warriors.

Interactive Medieval Experiences

Visitors can dive deeper into the medieval era by engaging with the knights and their supporters. The event features live medieval music, pottery demonstrations, and living history displays covering various aspects of medieval life, including medicine, fletching, and cooking. These interactive experiences offer a comprehensive look at daily life during the medieval period.

Fun for All Ages: Crafts and Storytelling

Throughout the weekend, attendees can participate in several free activities. Children can create medieval-inspired pottery, craft rainbow shields and crowns to celebrate Pride in Hull, and enjoy nature and history-themed storytelling, song, and music with the Wild Man of the Woods.

On Sunday (28th), Hull Libraries will present medieval tales tailored for younger audiences. For a small fee, visitors can also test their skills at archery, challenging themselves to see if they have what it takes to be a master medieval archer.

Inclusive and Accessible Activities

Many of the combat displays, pottery demonstrations, and storytelling performances will be interpreted in British Sign Language. Detailed schedules and timings for these sessions are available on the Hull Museums website.

For children with disabilities, those who are neurodivergent, or those who experience anxiety, the event offers relaxed, pre-bookable craft sessions with limited numbers. These sessions will run on the morning of each event day, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all participants. More information and tickets for these sessions can be found on the Hull Museums website.
