York City have strengthened their squad with the signing of 19-year-old winger Mo Fadera from Garforth Town. The young talent joins Adam Hinshelwood’s side after impressing in a pre-season match against York City in July.
Impressive Performance Catches York City’s Eye
Fadera first came to York City’s attention during a pre-season friendly, where he made an instant impact for Garforth Town. After coming on as a substitute, the winger charged down the left flank from deep and delivered a well-placed right-footed shot from close range to score. His speed, direct play, and composure in front of goal left a strong impression on York’s coaching staff, leading to the move.
From Grassroots Football to the National League
Fadera’s journey began with Hamilton Panthers, a grassroots club based at the Knavesmire in York. His performances at the local level paved the way for his move to Garforth Town earlier this summer, where he continued to develop his skills and attract attention with his attacking prowess.
York City Add Depth to Their Attack
York City will be hoping that Fadera can bring his energy and potential to their attacking line-up as they continue the season. With his signing, the club looks to add depth and youthful enthusiasm to their squad.
York have started the 2024/25 National League campaign brightly, winning three and drawing two matches, with only one loss – a disappointing defeat to otherwise winless Boston United – on the books this term from their six matches played. They currently sit in sixth place, in the playoff places. They’ll be hoping to add some attacking threat to maintain that challenge for promotion to the EFL.
The move is still subject to league and FA approval, but Fadera’s arrival has already generated anticipation among York City supporters eager to see what the young winger can bring to the LNER Community Stadium.
