York RLFC has announced the exciting addition of Jack Martin, an Australian prop forward, to their squad until the end of 2025. This strategic signing, facilitated by the support of the SquadBuilder, is expected to bolster the team’s performance as they look to make a strong push towards the finals.

A Young Talent with Impressive Experience
At just 23 years old, Jack Martin already boasts a solid track record. Before joining the Knights, Martin played for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls from 2023 to 2024, demonstrating his skills in Australia’s competitive rugby league circuits. His career also includes stints with the Cronulla Sharks in 2022 and the Ipswich Jets in 2019, showcasing his versatility and growing experience.
Martin’s talent was evident early in his career, as he earned a spot in the Queensland U19s team, making an appearance in 2018. His experience in both the Queensland Cup, where he has made 32 appearances, and the New South Wales Cup, with two appearances in Reserve Grade, underscores his development as a promising prop forward.
Martin’s Vision for His Time with the Knights
Martin expressed his enthusiasm for the move to York, highlighting his desire to challenge himself outside of his comfort zone.
“I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. I was comfortable in Queensland and I wanted to step outside that and be comfortable being uncomfortable,”
he stated, underlining his commitment to personal and professional growth.
The young prop forward is not just focused on his own development but also on contributing to the team’s success.
“Winning the comp is a massive one obviously and getting back into Super League with the boys and giving that a real crack,”
he remarked. Martin’s goal is to forge strong connections with his fellow forwards, aiming to be “a force to be reckoned with” while allowing the outside backs to excel in their roles.
A Strategic Move for York Knights
York RLFC Chairman Clint GoodChild shared his excitement about Martin’s arrival, emphasizing the positive impact the young forward is expected to have on the team.
“Jack coming in at this time in the season will be a jolt of fresh energy,”
GoodChild noted. He highlighted Martin’s impressive resume, including his representation of the Queensland U19s, as a testament to his potential.
GoodChild also pointed out that Martin will be an integral part of the squad’s makeup for the remainder of the season and into the next. His addition is seen as a key element in York’s strategy to enhance their competitiveness and achieve their goals.
