York RLFC fans, get ready—Joe Law is coming in 2025! At 20 years old, this centre is making a name for himself in rugby league and his move to York could be the start of something special. He’s got the skills, now he’s here to stay.
From junior rugby to Super League
Joe Law’s rugby journey started like many others—at his local junior club, Stanley Rangers. From there his talent was spotted by Wakefield Trinity and he joined their Scholarship programme before moving up to the Academy in 2020.
Fast forward to 2023 and Law was Super League bound, making his debut for Wakefield Trinity against Leeds Rhinos. That same year he joined York RLFC on loan and showed his attacking prowess with 6 tries in 9 games, including a debut try against Dewsbury in August. Not bad for a 20 year old, eh?
Why we signed him
It wasn’t just his on field stats that made Law a must sign for York. Head coach Mark Applegarth has been a long time fan of the young centre. In fact their connection goes back to when Applegarth first signed Law as a 14 year old.
“Joe Law was a player we brought in when I joined York because we needed a centre with the injuries as they were,”
Applegarth said.
“Through my time at my previous club, I knew all about Joe. He’s a player I first signed at 14 years old and I’m glad we’ve got him on board permanently.”
What can we expect from Law?
Applegarth wasn’t shy in his praise for Law’s potential.
“Over the next 5 years he’ll really start to make his mark on the game,”
he said.
“In my opinion he’s a player that’s got all the attributes to play top level rugby and I’m sure the York fans will agree with me on that.”
He’s “a really coachable kid” Applegarth is looking forward to seeing him develop. And if his loan spell at York is anything to go by, you should be too.
Building the Knights for 2025
Joe Law isn’t the only new face at York for 2025. He’s the 7th new signing of the season:
- Paul McShane
- Kieran Buchanan
- James Farrar
- Jude Ferreria
- Jacques O’Neill
- Jacob Gannon
York RLFC have a mix of experience and young talent in the squad.
Good times ahead
For a player like Joe Law it’s not just a new club it’s a new chapter. With his work ethic and try scoring record it’s no wonder the York fans are pleased.
