Heritage
Nestled in the centre of the Vale of York, Northallerton is proud to call itself the heart of North Yorkshire. Originally the Vikings used it as an administrative centre and it has developed over the years as a coaching stop. One of the oldest inns in the town hosted Charles Dickens whilst he was writing Nicholas Nickleby.

When it comes to exploring the countryside, both the Dales and the Moors are at your fingertips offering plenty of opportunities for walking. The beautiful nearby village of Osmotherley is close to the Coast to Coast path, the Cleveland Way and the starting point to the Lyke Wake Walk. Or for a more relaxing way to discover the countryside, The Wensleydale Railway, runs between Leeming Bar and Redmire in the Yorkshire Dales, offering a scenic and pleasant journey through Herriot Country. Getting to the Wensleydale Railway couldn’t be easier, there’s a half hourly bus service from Northallerton to Leeming Bar, which takes just 14 minutes.
