I love a good Boyes store as they have just about everything you could possibly need, so it was great to see there was a branch in Northallerton. When I first entered the store it seemed very dark and dingy in there although the lighting did improve as it got further in-it went back and back for ages. I was looking for knitting needles but couldn’t find any staff to ask; in other branches they (knitting needles) are located on the first floor but it took ages to find the stairs. I eventually spotted a lift but if this was for customer use it was not evident and the handle would have been too high up and difficult for wheelchair users🤷‍♀️ When I did get to the first floor there was a really good range of materials, wool and accessories etc

Always get what’s needed in Boyes and usually at a decent price, but the staff can be really horrible - to each other in front of customers! Witnessed a female member of staff berate a young male member of staff for accidentally damaging a small item (de-icer can) and act as though it was a hanging offence! Made him present to the manager for his punishment. If that’s the atmosphere colleagues have to work in I’d suggest looking for employment else where!

When entering with my assistance dog the staff seamed confused as to if this is allowed. Tesco a food retailer have no problems with her. Always welcome her and know her name. Eventually the manager said yes no problem. When checking out the same staff members were on the tills having a private conversation and totally oblivious to me in my wheelchair and they never heard the question I asked. Is this why they did not know company policy on assistance dogs? The overall shopping experience is good, something for everyone at reasonable prices hence 4 stars would have been 5 had it not been the initial reluctance to allow my dog because of staff too busy in private chitchat.

I was told if you can't find it in Boyes, stop looking 😀 Called in for an iron and found a large choice but also came out with clothes for my husband and I and Astonish daily shower cleaner I couldn't get in the supermarkets plus a few other bits and pieces. What a great store!
