Wellbeing in Barnsley

There are many aspects of Barnsley that make it a great choice for a wellness holiday in Yorkshire.

Escape the urban and head into the surrounding countryside for some fresh air in the great outdoors. Barnsley sits at the centre of the Trans Pennine Trail which offers fantastic opportunities for walking or cycling excursions. The trail passes through many picturesque historical places including Worsbrough Mill and Wentworth Castle Gardens where you can enjoy a gentle stroll through beautifully landscaped gardens, followed by refreshments in the tearoom.

Immerse yourself in nature with a trip to the idyllic RSBP Old Moor Nature Reserve. Settle down in the hides and behind strategically placed viewing screens and survey protected wetland habitats which are a hotbed breeding ground for the rare Bittern and the Marsh Harrier. You can also spot dragonflies zipping just above the water, and there are Wild Play Zones and pond dipping for children. A highlight is the specially designed wellbeing trail with seasonal mindfulness exercises to do at various tranquil locations.

Keen golfers can retreat to one of the two courses at Barnsley for some peace and quiet and the chance to reduce their handicap. Hillies Pavilion near Wombell is a 32-hole course whilst Limes is an extensive 69, and both offer a warm and friendly welcome. Nearby Silkstone also has a course that golf enthusiasts can enjoy.

For a more traditional wellness experience, there are several spas in Barnsley for you to choose between. Most well-known is multi-award-winning House of Beauty which offers luxury beauty treatments and massages for men and women. Tranquil Garden is a more laidback spa which aims to rebalance the mind and body through a range of holistic treatments and time spend outdoors in the hydro massage hot tub, wood-fired Finnish sauna cabin and sunroom.
