The Boars Head is situated in the historic village of Ripley and sits on the cobbled market square in the heart of this unique Yorkshire village. Originally a coaching Inn on the London to Edinburgh route the Boars Head was closed down for 70 years before being re developed and opened again in 1990 by the Ingilby family owners of Ripley Castle.
Many of the rooms are furnished with pictures and furniture from the Castle which gives the Boars Head a traditional English style. Guests and visitors to the Inn can enjoy morning coffee and shortbread biscuits or afternoon tea in either the elegant restful Drawing Room or the cosy Snug surrounded by portraits of generations past and original art. In the winter months there is a real fire to warm up by.
There is also a modern Dining room where full hearty traditional English breakfasts are served to residents and this is also open to diners for lunch and dinner. Food is also served in the traditional Bar which has a wide range of real Ales on tap including on occasion our very own real Ale Crackshot. There is a generous wine list and speciality Gin menu. In fine weather there are tables in the private beer garden or on the cobbled market square where guests can dine al fresco and watch the world go by.
Menus are designed to use, wherever possible, local Yorkshire suppliers and produce from the Ripley Castle gardens including Honey from the Castle Bees and Venison from the Deer park or game from the Estate. Style is Modern English and as well as the ever popular Fish and Chips, homemade generous Burger and traditional Real Fish Pie there is a daily menu selection. The daily menu might include sea bass or locally caught seafood specials or new season local Nidderdale lamb , and is designed by our chefs to always take advantage of seasonal products. For lighter diners there is always a homemade seasonal soup and a generous selection of sandwiches. Puddings range from the light and creamy to the waist damaging traditional sticky puddings.
For private parties of Diners our chefs will plan a menu to suit all palates and we can offer superb wines from the Castle cellars.
