The Stone House is a country house hotel and restaurant located one mile from the market town of Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. The house was built in 1908, on the sunny side of the Upper Dale. It is a fine Edwardian house which retains the atmosphere and furnishings of an elegant family home, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
A beautiful old English garden surrounds the hotel, which faces south and overlooks the foothills of the Pennines affording magnificent views. Quiet and secluded, yet with modern amenities, it is the perfect setting for a relaxing break.
Since opening in 1980, the hotel remains in the same family ownership. With our personal supervision combined with a friendly and efficient team of staff, delicious food and wines, comfortable en suite accommodation and a dream location – we are confident that your visit to the Stone House will be an enjoyable one.
Our menu changes daily and offers a choice of delicious dishes using fresh ingredients sourced from the Dales wherever possible. From the succulent local lamb and beef reared on the limestone pastures to the delicious Wensleydale cheeses, fresh fish, vegetarian options, homemade breads and heavenly puddings – our team of chefs aim to please!
Stone House has 24 quality en suite bedrooms. All rooms have recently undergone extensive refurbishment, and are comfortable, well appointed and include three 4-poster rooms, nine ground-floor bedrooms (some with private conservatories) and two luxury suites. There is a cosy bar area, and the oak-panelled lounge is an ideal place to relax with a good book from our library, or just to unwind in the warmth of a roaring log fire.
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the breath-taking beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in any way you choose – motoring, walking or cycling! Here at Stone House we have ‘The Bike Barn’- a purpose built secure stabling facility for cycles, mountain bikes and motorcycles.
Stone House is the ideal choice of venue for touring historic Wensleydale. Castles, Abbeys, picturesque villages, farms and fells, country inns and stone-walled lanes, all featured in the well-loved films and books of James Herriot.
