The ‘Chevin’ is a great place to visit, and is open all year round. There are walks, crags to climb and the views on a clear day are breath taking.
Otley is the nearest Market town and has a small busy shopping area with popular open markets (on certain days) Events throughout the year, include the Otley Show in May, the Carnival in June, the Folk festival in September and the Victorian Fayre in December. The town centre is renowned for the number and quality of its pubs, and the surrounding countryside provides ample scope for walking, fishing, riding and other outdoor sports.
Ilkley is the site of the Cow and Calf, which is a large rock formation consisting of an outcrop and boulder, also known as Hangingstone Rocks. The rocks are made of millstone grit, a variety of sandstone, and are so named because one is large, with the smaller one siting close to it, like a cow and calf. Legend has it that there was once also a "bull", but that was quarried for stone during the spa town boom Ilkley was part of in the 19th century. However, none of the local historians have provided any evidence of the Bull's existence. Wonderful walks and picnic areas can be found here for a most enjoyable day out.
Almscliffe Crag is situated on small hill near the village of North Rigton, between Leeds and Harrogate, again a lovely site to visit and climb. The crag itself has been filmed for many opening titles for TV.
Harrogate is a popular spa town, with lovely shops and sites to see including the Famous ‘Betty’s Tea Rooms’ for that well deserved treat of afternoon tea….The town also has its own Turkish Baths and spa.
A little further afield you have Leeds with all the sightseeing and shopping you could wish for, The Royal Armouries, Thackrey Medical Muesuem, Roundhay Park Tropical World, Henry Moore Instutute and more.
Bolton Abbey owned by the Devonshire family is a lovely day out with the Cavandish Pavilion Tea rooms and Strid Wood, you can also picnic by the side of the Strid and enjoy the views.
