Overview & description
Clarion Lodge Campsite is a small family run campsite on Otley Chevin, West Yorkshire with spectacular views over the attractive countryside in Mid-Wharfedale.
The site is perfectly located at the centre of the rural triangle between Leeds, Harrogate and Bradford.
It is ideally situated as a stopover point en-route either heading north or south, or is great for a few days’ stay so you can enjoy this part of Yorkshire.
At Clarion Lodge Campsite, we can accommodate tents, caravans & motorhomes. There are 10 hard standings with electric hook-up and a tent area along with men & women’s toilet/shower block - free 24-hour hot water, also new washing up facilities. We also have three Big Chief Wigwam® Cabins.
The ‘Chevin’ is a great place to visit, and is open all year round. There are walks, crags to climb and the views on a clear day are breath taking.
Otley is the nearest market town with a busy shopping area and bustling open markets on certain days.
Events take place throughout the year including the Otley Show in May, the Carnival in June, the Folk Festival in September and the Victorian Fayre in December.
The town centre is renowned for the number and quality of its pubs, and the surrounding countryside provides ample scope for walking, fishing, riding and other outdoor sports.
Ilkley is not far from Clarion Lodge and is the site of the Cow and Calf, which is a large rock formation consisting of an outcrop and boulder, also known as Hangingstone Rocks.
The rocks are made of millstone grit, a variety of sandstone, and are so named because one is large, with the smaller one siting close to it, like a cow and calf. Wonderful walks and picnic areas can be found here for a most enjoyable day out.
Almscliffe Crag is situated on a small hill near the village of North Rigton, between Leeds and Harrogate, again a lovely site to visit and climb. The crag itself has been filmed for many opening titles for TV.
Harrogate is a popular spa town, with lovely shops and sites to see including the Famous ‘Betty’s Tea Rooms’ for that well deserved treat of afternoon. The town also has its own Turkish Baths and Spa.
A little further afield you have Leeds with all the sightseeing and shopping you could wish for, The Royal Armouries, Thackray Medical Museum, Roundhay Park Tropical World, Henry Moore Institute and more.
Bolton Abbey, owned by the Devonshire family, is a lovely day out with the Cavendish Pavilion Tea rooms and Strid Wood, you can also picnic and enjoy the views.
