The Old Nail Shed belongs to The Anvil Inn, Sawdon and is found in the inn’s grounds to the back. Sawdon is still very much a working village with working farms in the heart of it. We border Wykeham Forest which leads into Dalby Forest. Sawdon Dale provides lovely walking especially when the rhododendrons are in bloom. Further up the road there are many forestry tracks and you can really immerse yourself in our countryside from your front door without having to drive! Our location also has easy access for Scarborough (15 mins) York (45 mins) Whitby (30 mins) Helmsley (45 mins) and The Dales (90 mins)
The Old Nail Shed was exactly that - where the blacksmith kept the metals he needed for his trade. The forge here was working right up until 1985 and we know there was one on this site as long ago as the early 1750s. Come into the bar of The Anvil Inn and see his original workshop with the furnace, tools and bellows.
The mezzanine bedroom with a king size double bed is accessed by a beautiful staircase made especially for us by blacksmiths near Whitby.Enjoy the open country views and fabulous sunsets from here!
Downstairs the bathroom has a free standing bath, Roca fittings and basin, starlights in the ceiling. The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped to high spec. BBQ and walled sun trap courtyard area.
We accept one medium sized dog in this accommodation, for an extra charge.
