Howgill Lodge is a hidden gem situated close to the River Wharfe, the landscape is typical of the Yorkshire Dales, with unspoilt greenery dotted here and there with traditional stone barns. The site is ingeniously terraced so that all guests can take advantage of the beautiful views. There are plenty of charming villages in the surrounding area perfect to explore and get an authentic taste of Yorkshire small town life.
We can accommodate tents, motorhomes and caravans and offer pitches with and without electric hook up. The main shower block includes hot showers, covered washing up area and a coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer. There are numerous smaller amenity blocks located around the site. Each pitch has its own picnic table where you can relax whilst watching the sunset in the distance.
If you would prefer a more luxurious stay, why not try our timber lodges. Sleeping up to 6 they have 2 bedrooms, a shower room, fully fitted kitchen and spacious open plan living/dining area, featuring a log burner 32” Smart TV and wifi. Outside on your private patio you will find a log fired hot tub, a firepit with built in pizza oven and a picnic table. The lodges are situated at the top of the site with exceptional views over the valley. Why not make your stay even more special by adding one our extra packs, choose from the celebration pack, chocolate fountain pack, fairy lights or a beautiful flower bouquet.
We are a dog friendly campsite and we welcome dogs at no extra cost. There is plenty of space for children to play, including a woodland area for them to explore. No camping trip is complete without toasting some marshmallows and our popular fire pits can be hired from reception complete with kindling and logs!
Although Howgill is set in beautiful and unspoilt countryside, there is no shortage of things to do! Bolton Abbey, Embsay Steam Railway, Skipton Castle, Barden Bridge, Aysgarth Falls, Stump Cross Caverns, and Ripley Castle are just a few of the places you can visit near the campsite.
Howgill Lodge is the perfect base for those wanting to explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, with many walking and cycle routes close by. There is something for everyone, whether that’s a relaxing stroll to the village of Appletreewick or climbing to the top of the famous Simon’s Seat – one of the most popular lower hills in the Yorkshire Dales. Cycling enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that we are located close to the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire cycling routes and within easy reach of miles of off road cycling.
Local pubs are the Craven Arms and the New Inn in Appletreewick both serving fine ales and great food. The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey is only a few minutes’ drive and there are plenty of opportunities for shopping, eating, and drinking in the local towns of Burnsall, Grassington, Skipton, and Ilkley.
For an extra special treat, head next door to the Brownie Barn where they sell barista coffee, smoothies and milkshakes, not to mention their famously freshly baked brownies.
We are delighted to welcome Audrey, Dorothy and Ethel our 3 gorgeous alpaca girls. You will find them happily grazing in their paddock next door to the camping field.
