Situated in the most idyllic of locations, ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa is one of the North’s finest country house hotels. Privately owned by the Duke of Devonshire, the hotel is set in acres of rolling parkland at Bolton Abbey.
The interior décor of the hotel is traditional country house style with individual touches of contemporary chic, influenced by the Duchess of Devonshire herself. Four-posters carved on the Chatsworth Estate have pride of place in the hotel suites, and original artwork is plentiful throughout the property.
Foodies will be in heaven. The Burlington Restaurant has been awarded 4 AA rosettes for its delicious modern British cuisine, and has been praised by many critics, for its provenance, as well as its fresh approach and creative use of ingredients and flavour combinations.
The Brasserie is also popular, a one AA rosette rating and a seasonally-inspired menu of dishes including fish, pasta and grilled meats such as melt-in- the-mouth, locally reared and aged steaks. The convivial atmosphere makes it a popular option for groups of friends and families.
Most ingredients are sourced locally, with fresh ingredients such as herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible flowers, harvested from the Hotel’s Kitchen Garden, and produce farmed on the surrounding Estate.
Dogs are welcome at the hotel, guests and their four-legged friend can simply enjoy the laid-back country house atmosphere and extensive ‘off-lead’ walks on the estate, immediately accessible from the hotel along with a small range of extra dog friendly hotel facilities.
Pampering ‘The Devonshire Spa’ is a treat, an ancient barn where modern facilities include a heated indoor pool, Rasul med chamber, sauna, steam room, nail bar and beauty and wellbeing treatments with luxurious Temple Spa, inspired by a love of the Mediterranean. There is also a relaxation room with lovely views over the tennis courts and countryside. A gymnasium offers guests the opportunity to work out with cardio, weights and resistance apparatus.
This well-loved hotel’s combination of high quality, warm friendly service and stunning location makes it a popular choice with romantics, gourmands, countryside lovers, and all of those who appreciate life’s finest pleasures. The Hotel won the coveted White Rose Award ‘Large Hotel’ in 2016, and again in 2018.
