We purchased Grosmont's Methodist Chapel and Sunday School from the church commissioners after they decided to close the church, due to low congregation numbers and the building falling into disrepair.
We gained planning permission to convert the buildings into 4 holiday cottages. Extensive ground works were carried out to cure the chapel's damp problems, to retain the rear bank, to make patios and to provide the parking spaces. Both properties were re-roofed, fitting roof windows.
New interior walls and floors were built and both properties were heavily insulated and underfloor heating was fitted. Where possible we have used LED lighting. Each cottage’s heating and hot water is connected to its own highly efficient air source heat pump.
This helped us gain an EPC rating of C, which basically means that even in the coldest winter weather the properties are warm and draft free. Chapel on the Hill and Preachers Rest are our two 5 star graded properties which were converted from the Chapel.
They both have their bedrooms on the ground floor with the living accommodation on the first floor.
Limber View and Sunday Cottage are our two 4 star gold graded properties in the converted Methodist Sunday School. Limber View is a two bedroomed cottage and Sunday Cottage is our wheelchair accessible accommodation, which we feel is highly specified.
