Overview & description
Wigfield Farm is owned by Barnsley College and is a base for a variety of courses in land based industries. The farm is a working farm open daily to the public. Wigfield Farm is a 2015 Certificate in Excellence winner from Tripadvisor.
We have a diverse range of animals including meerkats, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, donkeys, Shetland ponies and owls. We have some rare breeds on site including Tamworth pigs and Suffolk Punch horses. We also have a rodent room and an aquatics room.
If you are looking for a birthday party venue then look no further than us as all the children get to meet some exotic animals and the birthday child gets to feed the meerkats!
We can organise tailor-made sessions for schools, nurseries and community groups and we also take animals off site to visit external settings such as nurseries and care homes.
Every Wednesday morning in term-time we run ‘Farmyard Stay and Play’ which are informal play sessions for pre-school children.
The farm holds regular activities and events throughout the year which are advertised on our website as well as on Facebook and Twitter so why not follow us to keep up to date with all of the farms latest news. If you visit around Easter you should be able to meet lambs and you may even see a piglet or a calf!
If you are struggling for gift ideas, we can definitely help you out, we offer VIP animal experiences, gift vouchers as well as animal adoptions and enclosure sponsorships. We also have a range of toys in our gift shop to suit every budget.
We have an exotics room where we house a variety of snakes and lizards, however this is not open to the public, but these animals can be viewed as part of a VIP Retile experience, birthday party or community group and the room is often open to the public at events.
Our horticulture unit provides seasonal plants and vegetables to purchase throughout the year.
