Quilt Sandwich offers a fantastic range of patchwork, quilting and craft retreats at The Royal Bridlington. Generally we bring in a top tutor for three one day workshops back to back. This way anyone who wants or need to stay over can do so and make a retreat.
The workshops normally begin at 10am with coffee and homemade biscuits before the teaching gets started. We break for lunch which is generally two course hot/cold buffet plus coffee then return to the teaching. Afternoon tea is usually around 3pm and comes with delicious homemade cake. Workshops finish somewhere between 4-5pm depending on project/tutor.
Those who stay may of course continue to sew until dinner or perhaps have a well earned drink in our bar. Dinner consists of three courses plus coffee and after which you can either enjoy free time or sew on or craft till late. After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast the next workshops commences at 10am.
The workshops and retreat are very friendly and are a great place to meet new people with a common interest – so don’t be afraid to come on your own.
Some of our regular tutors include Jennie Rayment, Gail Lawther, Dawn Cameron-Dick, Lilian Hedley, Susan Briscoe, Sally Holman, Sally Ablett, Pat Archibald to name but a few.
We also bring in International Teachers and we are pleased to announce Jacqueline De Jonge from the Netherland will be here is March 2015 and Claudia Pheil from Germany will be here in December 2015.
Our students come from near and far also and some travel from abroad too.
Sometimes it’s just nice to enjoy a retreat without the distractions of home and learning something new. We offer ME-Time retreats which offer space to work, to do your own thing- be it sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, cross stitch, papercraft or whatever. Fiona is on hand to assist should you need any assistance.
We also offer dressmaking and sewing machine skills for all levels. Celia Banks from Sew Fundamental is a superb tutor and she is a fitting expert specialising in the Palmer Pletch technique.
So if you are new to sewing or have a new machine, want to learn perfect buttonholes, and different ways of inserting zips or just want to make clothes that really fit – Celia can help.
Papercraft workshops and retreats are also offered.
A longarm quilting service is also available on our ABM Innova longarm which we imported from the USA. A whole range of extra wide backing fabrics (108inches wide) are available to choose from along with different types of wadding. We offer a digitised pantograph – all over design service using the ABM autopilot and there are hundreds of patterns to choose from. There is no longer a need to struggle with a large quilt under a domestic machine – you will be amazed at what difference a longarm can make to your quilt.
We are also happy to offer our facilities to other groups who want to come away organise their ‘own thing ‘and enjoy crafting time without having to break off to prepare food. Just contact us for more details.
