National Horseracing College (NHC) is set in the picturesque grounds of Rossington Hall, providing a tranquil environment to train people for the horseracing industry.
You may have enjoyed the buzz of Yorkshires racecourses on a race day and admired the horses. Have you ever thought how many people it takes to prepare one racehorse for the race?
Ever considered; How do you start a career in racing?
With over 40 ex-racehorses at the college, there is always plenty to do! The horses have the amazing job of teaching the next generation of racing staff, with help from the NHC team. Courses range from the residential Foundation Course for new entrants, and a variety of professional and licence courses for those already working in racing. The majority of students are aged 16+ with some starting out at age 14.
The starting point into racing is the Residential Foundation Course, where after 12 weeks students can achieve a Level 1 Diploma then go onto a 6 week work placement followed by employment and an apprenticeship. The work is varied, interesting and may involve travel around Yorkshire, the UK and internationally. Racing travels all over the world!
The College has a team of 18 horses used for Doncaster Equine College, for young people in the local area to achieve their Level 1,2 and 3 in Horse Care, for a career in other equine industries. For more information on courses see our website and get in touch info@theNHC.co.uk
The excellent facilities include a Visitor Centre with meeting rooms overlooking the gallops and indoor arena, an inspirational place to hold meetings in an equine environment. Parking is free at the Visitor Centre and large enough to hold many horseboxes and cars at any one time.
The indoor arena, gallops and show ground are frequently busy with activities, horse and dog shows, fitness training, and workshops by professionals from Yorkshire and beyond. To book the facilities please contact Josh Walker on 01302 861000 j.walker@theNHC.co.uk
NHC is a charity that strives to support young people aged 14 – 18 from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop a host of life skills and gain valuable employment in the racing industry. To do this there are various fundraising events throughout the year involving sponsors from local, national and international businesses. This is a unique and rewarding way to give something back to a Yorkshire based charity.
