Description

This eco-friendly visitor centre is one of the Forestry Commission’s first visitor centres with sustainability as its main focus. Facilities within the centre include an information desk, Forestry Commission shop, hands-on interactive exhibition area, meeting room, external and internal toilets and Treetops Restaurant with terrace.

The Visitor Centre sells maps and booklets about the various walks and cycle trails within the forest and is also the new home of the Dalby Astronomical Centre where events are held throughout the year. The Visitor Centre is wheelchair friendly.

The visitor centre has guest WIFI as well, which is very useful as mobile phone signal is extremely patchy in this remote place – making the visitor centre an ideal meeting spot for a family group chat!

Parking

Access to Dalby Forest carries a fee – £10 for a day for a vehicle – but this includes parking as well as driving on many miles of roads. Payment is very easy, and the fees help to fund the maintenance of an impressive array of cycle routes around the forest. If you take a ride on one of the three well signposted routes, you will really see why there is a fee: there’s many miles of well cared for tracks for you to enjoy!

The access is via a barrier at the entry to the forest, and you can pay at one of many handy pay stations using your car registration. It really couldn’t be easier.

Spend the whole day here, bring a picnic, and visit the many things to do in this special place. Get outdoors, get active, enjoy nature, and have fun!

Find it on a Map

The map below pinpoints the visitor centre. For your Sat Nav, plumb in YO18 7LT and you’ll find your way here (but note you’ll need to go into the toll section for the final few miles).

While we’ve located Dalby Forest “in” Pickering, really that’s simply the closest larger town. As you can see, it’s really a large site, set on it’s own, in between Pickering and the seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby which are both an easy car ride away.
