Set in the Vale of York, within easy reach of Harrogate and Leeds, Beningbrough Hall, Gallery Gardens offers sprawling lawns, herbaceous borders, woodland paths and a working kitchen garden. Inside the hall, the grand rooms are a perfect backdrop for the rich collection of portraits, featuring people who have made, and are making, British history and culture. Each year contemporary art exhibitions fill the Saloon Galleries. 2019 brings Yorkshire! Achievement, Grit and Controversy: a collection of 25 works of art featuring some of the county’s game changers, rebels and influencers.
Beningbrough's series of interlocking gardens each offer their own distinct seasonal interest – from wildlife havens to tranquil spots underneath the pergola and colourful herbaceous borders buzzing with life – and are inspirational all year round. There are longer walks through park and woodlands and beside the river with stunning views of the hall.
For families, children can let off steam in the wilderness play area, jump on a trike or bike, or pick up an explorer backpack to discover more on a walk through the gardens. We have the pre-school playroom for the smallest members of the family and everyone can get hands on in the sculpture room. Or dress up as a lord or lady of the house and sit the whole family down for your very own digital portrait.
A full programme events are run during the school holidays.
