Overview & description
The Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes, Wensleydale, shares the stories of the people and landscape of the Yorkshire Dales. There’s indoor fun with loads of things to touch and do all round the Museum. You can get crafty at the “Creation Station” in our railway carriages and there’s room to run and play on the outdoor trail. Through the school holidays we also have Kids Crafty Wednesdays and Fun Fridays with trails and heaps of fun activities! Special exhibition and events programmes run throughout the year so why not come along to learn a new skill or drop in on one of our demo days. The Firebox café on site is a great place to take a rest, relax and recharge ready for exploring the Museum and Hawes!
Housed in an imaginative and modern conversion of Hawes railway station, the Museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Distinctly Dales products made by local artists and makers can be found in our shop, as well as maps, books and all the other things you might need for your trip to the Yorkshire Dales. You can dip into your family history in our research room – expert help is on hand on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hawes National Park Centre – a networked tourist information centre – is in the same building as the Museum.
